Synopsis

Artificial translation is rooted chiefly in computing machinery. In this paper I recover the computational limitations of both symbolic and neural machine translation, also investigating the caveats of current trends produced by connectionism. I then summon the anti-reductionist framework of mathematical biologist Robert Rosen to repurpose the question and explore non-conventional alternatives, such as hypercomputation. Finally, I raise the question whether a translator agent needs to be a hypermachine or not a machine at all.
