Synopsis

The main objective of this paper is to analyze the participation of the Catholic Church in the armed movement in Chiapas, mainly in the Zapatista Army of National Liberation, between the decades of the eighties and nineties, of the last century, from the Study of the thought of the Bishop of San Cristóbal de las Casas, Samuel Ruiz, and his ideas related to liberation theology, as well as his commitment to the poor. This paper makes visible the essential features of the native theology, in Samuel Ruiz, his evangelizing work and his interest in the conservation of the cultural identity of the native people.
