Synopsis

The release of the Chinese Proficiency Grading Standards for International Chinese Language Education (hereinafter referred to as "Standards") marks a new stage in the development of international Chinese language education, steadily progressing towards the goals of standardization, normalization, and comprehensiveness. The new Standards expand upon the traditional four-dimensional proficiency standards of "listening, speaking, reading, writing" by incorporating "translation" skills. This provides specific level divisions for students' translation and interpretation abilities, bringing significant insights to Chinese education. Starting from the descriptions of the translation skills in Standards, particularly in terms of material types, length of texts, translation accuracy, and language style, we clarify how the Standards regulate translation skills and the differences between different proficiency levels. An analysis of the characteristics of the requirements for Chinese learners' translation skills and corresponding training methods is provided. We also provide prospects for the teaching of translation in international Chinese education, offering recommendations for curriculum development, textbook writing, artificial intelligence assistance, student career development platform, and teacher community. The aim is to provide guidance for development in translation teaching.
