Synopsis

“Slowness” in translation is not always a defect. It can be a virtue for translators, especially for translators of academic writings. The following factors make this slowness inevitable: the structural differences between English and Chinese languages, highly academic content, allusions employed in the original texts and the precise translation of people’s names. Only through meticulous research and conscientious effort, can valuable translated version of academic writings be achieved, which demonstrates the translator’s respect for his work as well as for the original texts.
