Synopsis

This study traces the development of folklore collection in the ethnographic region of Romanați from the early twentieth century to the beginning of the twenty-first century, highlighting the major scholars and publications that have contributed to the preservation of its literary, musical, and choreographic traditions. Beginning with the pioneering collections of N. Țapu and Gr. G. Tocilescu and continuing through the work of Ion Bianu, Nicolae Păsculescu, Ștefan Ricman, George Breazul, Alexandru Amzulescu, Marcel Locusteanu, Ilie Mitu, Aurelian I. Popescu, and Gheorghe Oprea, the article reconstructs the history of ethnographic and ethnomusicological research in the region. It examines the evolution of fieldwork methodologies, the documentation of oral traditions, and the contribution of these collections to the preservation and interpretation of Romanați’s intangible cultural heritage.
