Synopsis

Each year, through the selection of the Prix Goncourt, new talents emerge in contemporary French literature. Among them is Elsa Fottorino, whose words come to life in her fourth book, Parle tout bas, which sheds light on a deeply personal tragedy that addresses the silence surrounding rape. The aim of this study is to provide an in-depth analysis of the novel by examining its literary, psychological, sociological, and feminist dimensions. Moreover, this research seeks to understand how Fottorino articulates her themes, develops her characters, and employs language to create a complex narrative. Particularly, the main objectives of this research are as follows:
1. To examine Elsa Fottorino’s biography.
2. To analyze the elements of psychological introspection that are present in the
novel.
3. To study the protagonist’s break from the past and the traumas that she
experiences.
4. To explore the thematic elements of the novel, including processes of self-
discovery and internal conflicts.
5. To analyze the perspectives of French feminism that are represented in the
narrative.
6. To identify intertextual and cultural references within the text.
The anticipated results are expected to offer a comprehensive understanding of how Elsa Fottorino constructs her characters and develops her themes, along with a critical evaluation of her work.
