Throughout human history, the issue of borders has been a delicate subject, frequently leading to misunderstandings largely stemming from differing ways of perceiving and defining a border. Addressing this issue requires taking into account the context, the evolution involved, and—above all—the specific perspective from which the matter is viewed and analyzed. It often happens that the issue takes on a completely different meaning depending on the perspective adopted. From the very outset of the discussion, essential questions arise: what constituted a border during the period in question, and what did it signify—or what role did it play—for the Romanian Principalities within that specific historical context?
