In the following pages, I aim to address the issue of the image of woman viewed as "the Other"—a topical subject, especially in the "current era dominated by a triumphant feminism." The image of the Other can become obsessive for each of us; it most often signifies a real person or community, yet one observed through the distorted filter of the imaginary. What we perceive is its image, and this image—like any image—belongs simultaneously to the real and to fiction.
