Analfabetismul digital – un test pentru capacitatea de adaptare a bibliotecilor publice din România

This study examines the current state of digital literacy in Romania and the contribution of public libraries to the development of digital skills among the adult population. As digital competencies have become essential in a society where online information is readily accessible, educating internet users has emerged as a matter of national importance. The study argues that improving digital literacy is crucial for adapting to contemporary technological challenges and for combating the effects of misinformation and infodemics, which have become increasingly evident in recent years. The analysis draws on official statistical data from the Romanian National Institute of Statistics and the European Commission’s Digital Economy and Society Index (DESI) reports, examining trends between 2019 and 2022. To contextualize the Romanian case, the article also compares the approaches adopted by public libraries in Romania, the United States, and Sweden, highlighting their role in supporting lifelong learning and promoting digital competencies among internet users.
