Unitatea dintre religie, știință și magie în proza lui Vasile Voiculescu

This study returns to the Renaissance, a period in which philosophers, artists, and writers were fascinated by the ideal of constructing a comprehensive vision of the world that integrated distinct systems of thought. It argues that Vasile Voiculescu’s prose is permeated by a nostalgic longing for this lost ideal of unity. The analysis focuses on the narrative and expressive strategies through which the unity of religion, science, and magic is represented. Particular attention is paid to Voiculescu’s distinctive typology of characters, whose melancholic attitude toward the modern world reflects a profound sense of loss, manifested through social conflict, desire, quests, or unresolved enigmas. The study also examines the impact of this ideal of unity on literary language, emphasizing the role of allegory and other figurative devices in generating new interpretative perspectives. Ultimately, it suggests that literary language, and, more broadly, art itself, becomes the privileged space in which the unity of religion, science, and magic can be imaginatively restored.
