Secvențe despre G. Călinescu la ziarul Națiunea (1946–1947)

The aim of this study is to highlight a series of lesser-known facts concerning the first two years of G. Călinescu’s tenure as director of Națiunea [The Nation] newspaper, between 1946 and 1947. First, we emphasize the role played by several Romanian Communist politicians from the Partidul Național Popular [National Popular Party] – such as Petre Constantinescu-Iași, Gh. Vlădescu-Răcoasa, Mihail I. Dragomirescu, and Constantin Borănescu-Lahovary – in editing this daily journal during February and March 1946. Second, we stress Grigore Preoteasa’s (Director of Press in the Ministry of National Propaganda) decisive contribution in securing the printing authorization. Third, we draw attention to several conflicts between G. Călinescu and his colleagues from both the Partidul Național Popular and Națiunea, which, in our view, were intended to discredit the prominent intellectual, despite the compromises he made with the communist agenda during that period.
