Standarde de competențe în domeniul analizei și accesului la subiect în biblioteci universitare

In a field like subject analysis and access, the importance of standards of competencies is beyond any doubt, under the conditions in which the interest of the present information "consumer" is for a field, a subject or a piece of information about something. The requirements regarding the level of these competencies, the way they are understood by those who teach knowledge organization (KO) in universities, but also by those who apply them are crucial. The professional associations are meant to formulate them in order to submit them to the authorities that elaborate the standards. An IFLA Working group called Training and Education in Subject Access (TESA) organized a webinar in 2022 meant to discuss problems regarding ways to apply competency standards for librarians and information specialists, starting from the results of an international survey carried out in December 2021-July 2022. The survey gathered participants from 61 countries, 32 of those being from Europe. The objectives mentioned by the organizers were: to make of a list of competencies and aptitudes in the field of KO and to recommend guides for the education and training in the field of subject analysis and access. The aim of the survey was to analyze the professional standards and guides and identify the common elements and differences by comparison. A series of reasons of concern such as: the reduced interest for training and education in the field of KO, the generation change as result of retirement, the lack of expertise in new employees (both teaching staff and librarians), reduced staff numbers because of lesser financing. The conclusions of the survey highlighted: the central role of metadata and of knowledge access, the importance of (re)instruction and the transferability of aptitudes. The paper will examine the aspects pointed out by the webinar and the situation regarding the existence, the mindfulness and the application of present standards of competencies as regards the subject analysis and access in university libraries of Romania. In the end solutions will be suggested for an improved situation.
