Conservarea eficientă a patrimoniului documentar național: Opțiune, oportunitate sau obligație?

The preservation of national documentary heritage is a critical issue that requires a strategic, well-coordinated approach. This paper examines the legislative and institutional framework governing documentary heritage conservation in Romania, highlighting the gaps and challenges in its implementation. Although legal provisions mandate the conservation of documentary collections, issues such as insufficient funding, inadequate staffing, and lack of coordination among responsible institutions hinder their effectiveness.
The study advocates for the creation of a national preservation-conservation strategy that aligns with European and international standards. Drawing from successful models such as the Library of Congress, the British Library, and the Bibliothèque Nationale de France, the paper proposes key measures, including improved institutional collaboration, investment in specialized training, and the establishment of a national research institute dedicated to documentary conservation. Strengthening preventive and curative conservation methods is essential to ensuring the longevity and accessibility of Romania's documentary heritage for future generations.
