Rezumat

Without overlooking the defining features that any comparative analysis of Joseph Heller’s and Kurt Vonnegut Jr.’s works must acknowledge—among them the authors’ experiences as soldiers during the Second World War, postmodern narrative techniques, temporal fragmentation, humor, and irony—this study is primarily concerned with the concept of limits. It proposes a comparative reading in which the novels of these two war veterans delineate uncertain boundaries around a symbolic “no man’s land,” a liminal space where fictional representations of the postwar world simultaneously dissolve and mirror one another. The study adopts a flexible yet theoretically grounded framework that reflects the ambiguity and instability of these suspended literary spaces. At the heart of this uncertain terrain, it seeks to create a point of encounter between two writers united not only by the shared experience of war but also by a lasting friendship.
