Synopsis

This study deals with the international circulation of the most successful Romanian novel written by Mircea Eliade. Maitreyi (1933) has known numerous translations abroad, being also Eliade's most translated novel. I followed the translation directions, the biographical profile of the translators, dissociating between projects and concrete editorial achievements. The areas of territorialization taken into account were chosen by the relevance in the world circulation.

Author Biography

CRISTINA BALINTE

Critic și istoric literar, cercetător la Institutul de Istorie și Teorie literară „G. Călinescu” al Academiei Române. Doctor în filologie (literatură comparată), cu teza Ispitirea Sfântului Anton, în text și imagine, coordonator științific: cerc. Nicolae Florescu. Studii postdoctorale în cadrul Academiei Române, definitivate prin lucrarea Mihai Ralea – critic umanist. Spiritul național în mentalitate europeană, coordonator științific: Nicolae Mecu. Premiul Academiei Române pentru ediția Sorin Titel (vol. 1–2), din colecția „Opere fundamentale”.
