Rezumat

This study examines the textual interventions imposed by communist censorship on G. Călinescu’s novel Bietul Ioanide, focusing on the ideological motivations behind the alterations and their impact on the work. Through a comparative analysis of the manuscript, the 1953 edition, the revised 1964 edition, and the 2002 critical edition, it identifies the linguistic and structural changes required for publication under the communist regime. The article also explores the critical reception of the novel and the relationship between literary creation and political power, demonstrating how censorship functioned as a mechanism for subordinating literary autonomy to ideological propaganda. By situating these textual transformations within the broader historical and biographical context, the study offers a deeper understanding of the interaction between literature, censorship, and cultural policy in communist Romania.
