This essay tries to present the translator as an epistemic and ethical agent, knowledgeable about his job beyond what is constituted by methods, techniques and rules. The vocation to translate emerges from the activation of the human cognitive, volitional and affective potential, from being able to access both what texts or events communicate to us, as well as what is proper to living beings and entities, which exist independently of our conceptual frameworks, conventions, contracts, dictionaries.
